JILL A. SCOTT
Resilient Anniversary
Our thin, ice pine bends forward and snaps back with a distinctive groan
in ailing harmony with a winter gale, the invader and the sacrifice.
A sister seedling just a year gone, fallen to the will of a microburst,
hums in ghostly empathy as the lofty point plummets and returns.
In this winter of isolation and swiftly fading sunlight:
An organism ravaged by extremes has the strength to curve its spine, and straighten once and again, always anticipating..... yet to succumb
to the fall.
