BESS KEMP
Shrinking

"I'm a writer"
she says
as her dress straps slip
down past her shoulders
"i have written for many
magazines, articles mostly"
she continues though she knows
he doesn't really care

and her bra is removed
in two quick motions
before she can think
about how not to do
these things

"i just finished a piece
for Wired magazine"
she adds

he nods absently

she turns to face the window
sees her reflection
the hollow eyes
C cup breasts she has paid plenty for

and his face
like an apparition
appearing over one shoulder

"let's just fuck, ok?" he says
and she knows then
how little he values
her words

Hollow

Hollowed out
Like the dead log lays its head

On a bed of sienna, rust and saffron

            A white flag flaps free-spirited
            And the wind sings
            A tragic song

Broken limbs
Stagger about
From long falls and entanglement

As the vines to freedom feel their way in
Through the cracks in the sky

            Continuance
            The rotation of time

As night, or first light
Descends
Everything bends accordingly

Unlike how animals
Defend the wild
The circle of life

            We drag our dead
            From the front
lines
            With their insides falling out

And what finds its way home
Still walking
Stumbles about  -hollow
