JOHN THE BAPTIST PREPARES A WAY

Cold morning. I ache from loss of light.
Stars like snow drops are fading
In the slowly graying sky.
I hold tight to my knees.
This is how I prepare.
It is almost time
To crash into light.
The early wind hints of two worlds.
One that I left behind.
One that I must make.

HEROD ON JB PREPARING A WAY

He murmurs now
Completely in shadow.
It feels like he's collapsing
Into a ball, returning
To the womb, the earth.

Not yet, John, not yet.
There's more pleasure/pain
To beget, to be born.

Leave nothing behind!
