WENDY HAMMONDWater's Edge
It was magic,
The way light slept
On the horizon,
Across the water,
On the edge
Of where I wanted
To be tucked in
I dipped my toes in
Along the shoreline,
Searched for rocks
And shells and poems,
Then sat and listened
As the waves
Came home
And I could have
Been swallowed,
Eaten alive
By it all,
Washed away
In my sleep
Like long goodbyes,
Final lines,
Or finger paintings
In the sand copyright WENDY HAMMOND
