PARC Water's Edge Rain-Storm travelword
Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life - John Updike

Rain/Storm

a desperate rain
throws itself down
in a tantrum
the wind takes a taste
then spits it out
like a bitter attitude

and the mood is blue
and the mood is dreary
and the sound is heavy
and the sound is constant

and I am sitting here
and I write about rain
again dipping my pen
into fountains of emotion
forgiving this pain

the ink stains
confessions
disfigurements
tossing pennies
mesmerized by surface

the thunder rolls the carpet out
and i run toward the darkest cloud
to see what all the fuss is about

drenched to the bone
alone and intoxicated
divulging all my sins and secrets
yet they boomerang back
like an echo in the distance

-wash me clean
i beg forgiveness
a desperate rain
throws itself down in a tantrum
while i kick and scream

PARC Water's Edge Rain-Storm travelword
there rises from the water's edge the densest and grimmest wilderness - Henry David Thoreau

WENDY HAMMOND
Water's Edge

It was magic,
The way light slept
On the horizon,
Across the water,
On the edge
Of where I wanted
To be tucked in

I dipped my toes in
Along the shoreline,
Searched for rocks
And shells and poems,
Then sat and listened
As the waves
Came home

And I could have
Been swallowed,
Eaten alive
By it all,
Washed away
In my sleep

Like long goodbyes,
Final lines,
Or finger paintings
In the sand
