RE Clearing Trees copyright STEVEN CROSS
Emotion and Kinetic.
What I first notice the title which is both the act of CLEARING the trees away and a descriptive of trees around an open space in a forest.
From this opposition CROSS creates a scene of emminent danger (clearing by fire) and of an open - hopeful and welcoming - space.
The stanzas - those first lines at margin - detail both emotions as they rush together as one might flee fire or rush into the light of a
clearingclearing. This kinetic is 'clearly' not secondary to the elements described.
A poet should have a 'natural' voice - Steven Cross certainly does.
