Stale Mouths


Our sons are our fathers, they kiss us with 
stale mouths. Dead leaves are our laureates',

small animated horrors
that love 
our hands--- 
they name us sick things that turn our
eyes yellow. There is a hollow distance, 
a place where we separate our blood and feces,
the small stones from our throats that 
choke without consequence. 
Our sons are our fathers, they kiss 
us with stale mouths, always 
dreaming of bare limbs and death.

I have never met Suarez, though I have eaten his orange peel suns, spoke with his secret banyan crows, palm island bullfrogs. His pubic-red seas are naked and smell of dark sex, Book of the Dead skeletal requiems, moon blue hills overlooking long bone cities; while crunch-tooth words pour from my nose and ears, bird-spatter sayings, pelvis trumpet paean trembles. Today, Suarez is in his chiming city, wave-tap words in his sandals, drum-tin things that are blue and green along chicken roads of brush and sky.
