poetryrepairshop 06.02:014ROBERT CRAIG The AtticHere in the attic a long broad- tent shaped shadowed place with a dazzling dizzying pillar of sunlight suspended at an angle smell of dust and apples and sweetish stink of decaying timbers the odd acoustics of the place took her words and made of them an un- intelligible booming she listened to the echoes ricochet and fall like needles as unseen birds murmured lasciviously in the eaves: she felt like a magic statue that sang a kind of song when the sun shone on it. A lesson in simple form suddenly made complex nuance. Magical realism - ROBERT CRAIG defines a space, a time, a place in its everyday familiarity; then a magic turn into fantasy or the fantasic. The Shape of CRAIG's poem draws attention away from the precise moment the poet shifts from the daily actual into the literary real. |
