VAL MAGNUSON
A Song with No Words
A song with no words sings within my soul It is a breeze that cannot be captured Quill, ink and vellum it does not know Translucently within my heart it flows I could sigh it and like a mirage It would glimmer upon the atoms of the air I know the reflections of its shadows And its tremblings I see its truths mirrored in my tears Fashioned in meditation Triumphantly announced with tranquility Enveloped in the veil of faithfulness Echoed in a subliminal vision Quintessential rapture Revealed by inspiration Within its melody I am captured It is the enchanting song of Love

VAL MAGNUSON       writes a poem regarding the futility of the image - although the 'song' has form and that form's effects are eleaborated (breezey, flowing, glimmering mirage, shadowy ,and trembling). One would think she and we pretty well know what this song is. It is a song but with no words when of course it is words that carry the description of the song we never hear...yet, she calls it 'THE song of love" not A song of love' as if we all hear the same song. So, by indirection, the poem is one of the futility of love. We believe that we can imagine what is in the mind of others; but, MAGNUSON suggests we know our own minds only vaguely. The mind is that place wherein we are captives.
