CHERYL J. FISH
Waxing and Waning
Hot wax on my legs, cold wind Outside. Almost Christmas as we talk of the homeless. There are many more of them now, I say, as she peels off my fur. Families can’t make it on what they earn, not enough housing and no one wants to address it. They take advantage, she says. A Polish emigrant trained in beauty school, She raises my leg to get the stragglers at the sides. Do I argue on a narrow table? We’d already discussed natural childbirth willing yourself to experience prolonged 'productive” pain. Now, she inflicts a short sharpness in my nerves stripping a layer. How many layers until the final one? All day she removes hair, drips wax, numbs follicles Polishes and buffs nails. She thinks they take the handouts When they should take work, unwilling to examine it To see the divisions, blames those on the bottom Time goes faster over my protests tearing off becoming smoother, less coarseness is what we need in this world, less desire to tear at each other to be the slickest one possible but we can’t take the fuzziness and we don’t want to apologize so we rip it and roll over onto our side.

tired i...
of all your lowdown prose littering the page like whiskeydriven scrawls on drunk tank walls relating your twisted love affair with the seductive dark ass of death looking for something real … searching for something certain … by now, it should be clear the only sure things are earth around the sun and old coupe devilles… but, if you wanna shoot, go ahead, pull the trigger, walk the plank, slam that fatal fix … or better yet … if you would really like to go out in a blaze of glory walk down to your nearest recruiter and sign on the dotted line maybe you can replace some homesick kid who's tired of staring down the working end of an ak47 … tired of waiting for a darkeyed lady with explosives strapped to her waist who seriously craves … a deadly embrace

Any study of binaries should consider the phenomenon of pornogarphy and poetry are the two most frequent themes of online sites, or that death and angst seem most prevalent themes for poetry - particularly among novice poets. It should also include D. B. COX' 'tired i' which attacks two binaries that often occur in poetry: that form is more valuable than meaning; and, structure. more valuable than narrative; or, vice versa.

Dark Duet
lovers creates their own patterns as they move through light reaching for the stillness locked in parallel dimensions trusting their feet the arms extensions the wrapped hearts a fierce joy spilling from them in spasms of delight their bodies forget time and place and without effort shake off the cadence of the hours leaning hard into each other they move in abstract figures he spins her out and brings her back holding her body tight until he knows it by heart in a dream of possibilities a touch more than touch they become artless motion gestures purer than language in the dark duet they now perform where the passion lies in absence of passion and deep movements from a crimson center the bodies learn their sweet particulars reaching for the beat below the beat the tender compromise breaking through a flow in time the pure silk of movement they surrender and extend in exuberant gestures and sensuous rhythms of the dance
