It could start with that first drink, first kiss and instead of being back where you were 24 hours earlier you're on a train you can't come back from. A touch, the last margarita, a yes to "would you like to shower first and the door shuts behind you. It's not just buying a pair of shoes you can't afford like Ms. Bradshaw's Manola Blahnik high heels but more like those red shoes a dancer sees in the window of a shoe maker, blood red, glittering, shoes her fiancé doesn't want her to reach for but she puts them on, begins to dance, is high, her cheeks red, her body glistening, sweaty, soaring, leaping over branches and leaves. She is so tired but she can't stop dancing as if the shoes are part of her and she can't stop dancing to death |

More Red Shoes Haven't you wanted to put them on and have everything that holds on to you dissolve in the rearview mirror. Don't you want to be flame? Be inflamed? Haven't you wanted to dance with a newspaper that morphs into a man? Haven't you wanted to just get up from a pasta dinner, walk backwards to get a last look at the room and plunge into the weird reality of the Red Shoes film? the guavas and rouge tints of Paris, Monte Carlo, London mist and be back in the forties when everyone wore chic clothes and were perfectly mannered. But you knew something smoldered behind the veil of their faces and you knew you were stepping inside a fairy tale where you won't even think of that small dining room you left with canned peaches and a clean napkin. You are moth, Lorelei at once, hypnotized, hypnotizing. The eyes glued to you once those red shoes you slide into, (easy as adultery) glue them selves to your blood, become your blood as you leap, smoke from what is too hot to touch E books, v07.05ary, education, the plain language of essays, interviews, opinion, reviews and, as ever, the grand language of poems, by poets whose poetry and prose stretch prevailing views of our world. international writers writing in the global creative community. Have You Even Gotten the News That a Friend, Younger just got into the school of her choice and she's excited and in a way you are too. But does n't it make you feel your life is ebbing. Ok, say it, beginning to end while hers is starting, new. Mothers of teenage girls must feel it. Sharon olds wrote about her daughter beginning to blood as she notices her own body change. My friend told me her news before ballet: it hung there like weights on my toes. Exciting I smile while inside I feel I'm losing something, not just to walk to the metro, plans to do something more than we actually do. I don't want to leave this city but feel left behind like Sarah Jessica Parker abandoned by Gap for seven teen year old Joss Stone |
