L.B. SEDLACEK
Animal Shadows

Interior of the mouth. Teeth once sharp and
thirsty for the taste of blood. Soul
that looks inward
and through metal bars
receiving scraps from buckets,
and stares from strangers.
Forced to rest upon unfamiliar grass
when sleeping
then waking up to a different sky,
unknown smells,
confined paths.
Cries blend with other cries,
howls on the landscape
molded by man:
none of them bloodthirsty.
All of them able to ignore
a wayward child or hand
that gets too close when taking
a picture of what they think
is an animal in a cage –
once brave and strong;
now: reduced to shadows.

North Carolina L.B. SEDLACEK's poetry has appeared in numerous publications such as "HazMat Review," "Grit," "Lite," and "Andwerve."
"Poetry endangers the established order in the soul."

DANIELLE MOFFAT
Classroom Boredom
(poetryrepairshop 99.11:127 )

Deep thought combined with a higher state of mentality
Rhetorical questions posed and wait, demand an answer
Lines, together and happy, on a hard white surface
While confusion spreads like a wave through the onlookers.

The omniscient drones on through time
Filling black holes with hard facts and more lines
Creating a structured harmony in the once void,
Now filled space that we called imagination.

Never-ending seconds tick over a lifetime in an hour
Sour smelling fumes of black ink rising up like heat waves
Fat letters rest lazily on the lines in their happy order
And wait expectantly for an amazing revelation.

While the sciences proclaim the empirical as actual, FELIU and SULLIVANshow disdain/distaste at chaotic learning and the unique, individuated experience of it . I have long held that college "English" departments should be scrapped a a first step is re-educating education. Except for grammar, everything done in the "English" classroom can be done elsewhere in college...from "period studies" moved into history departments to 'psychological' analysis moved to its clear owner.
