VALERIE MACEWAN Mother Coming Home To Live With Me Mother drives the past down wine-headed highways with confusing hairpin turns, frequent lane changes, and sudden stops in state funded rest areas where tourists unfold accordian map-legs, disembark, and plod toward infra-red self-flushing toilets, not stopping to wash their hands as the uniformed attendants sweep debris and cigarette butts, and remind travelers to utilize the dog walk area, drive safely, and enjoy scenic North Carolina. ©2007 www.poetryrepairs.com a.k.a. Her daughter left in '65 Calls once a month And doesn't leave her number. But Ednalee acts like she's next door Coming for dinner that night. Every Tuesday they're at the Lodge Before the coffee's even made.
