AUSTIN ALEXIS
Missing Poem

What happened to that poem,
the long, skinny one,
the one I wrote seven years ago,
the one about ice skating?
In that far-off poetry, the ice
glistened like African waterfalls.
I've seen photos of those falls
jewel-shining in equatorial sun.
The ice-rink ice in Central Park
likewise doesn't know how
to turn-off its blaze.
My poem captured its exciting gleam.
But that poem is lost, escaped,
somehow gone from my folder, desk, computer.
"Return to me," I demand.
The air is crazy with excessive silence.

Maybe poems die or are killed
and voyage to an afterlife.
Maybe there's a heaven and a hell
for good and bad poems.
In that case my absent poem,
transcending the earth-bound,
might have found a Home
and its syllables,
no longer a poem,
are a prayer.

BOB BURNHAM
Internet Book Marketing, an Author's Secret Weapon

The Internet has many tools for internet marketers And it has opened up a whole new world and made book marketing exciting, creative and lucrative. There are many fantastic internet tools and resources that can make internet book marketing a breeze.

The internet has opened up a whole new world and made book marketing exciting, creative, and yes it can be lucrative too.

The first thing you think of when you think of the internet is likely a website and yes, a website is important however there are many other fantastic internet tools and resources that can make internet book marketing a breeze.

Blogs

Blogs are a fantastic tool to communicate with your current customers as well as your prospective customers. You can have a formal and authoritative tone to maintain your 'expert' credibility and status. You can also take a more conversational tone and develop a more friendly or informal relationship with your customers and readers.

Forums,

Chat rooms, and social networking Now I am not suggesting that you go and get a MySpace page and begin chatting, however many artists and authors do have MySpace pages. What I am suggesting is that you take advantage of the forums and interactive websites that cater to your target market. There are forums and online social groups on just about every topic imaginable from hobby trains to gardening, from rock climbing to pet care. Find these groups, register, and mingle. You never know who you might meet and by placing a link to your book's website in your signature you are connecting with potential customers.

Email,

is a powerful tool for an internet book marketer. As you collect email addresses from associates, from your website visitors, and from folks you meet, your list will grow. You can use this list in any number of ways. Many rich authors choose to send their email list a regular email newsletter which informs and also announces any promotions or new products. Others choose to simply contact their list when they have good news, like reaching no. 1 on the Amazon Bestsellers List.

Websites,

of course it is important for you to have a website too. A website can, and should, be more than just a brochure type page where people can read about you and or your book. Your website can link to bookstores where people can buy your book. Your website can offer a newsletter subscription. It can promote your book with testimonials and reviews and your website can offer a shopping cart so people can purchase your book right then and there.

The internet has many many tools for internet book marketers and we have only scratched the surface. Advertising, links, online magazines the sky is the limit. Get online and get marketing!

Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.
~MARK TWAIN

TRINA STOLEC
Stud

He struts in like a
bad John Wayne impression,
leans an arm on the bar.
The dust on his coat
could be from a ranch,
but the reek of mothballs
gives him away.
Stoic eyes glaze with effort
of pretending to be blind
to passing sways.
His shoulders stiff in anticipation
of a soft touch,
            necessary human contact.
He never smiles,
passes time giving the lights
smoke halos.
He goes home alone,
confused
as to why.

She said, “Good night, sweet dream”,
her lips close to his ear.
A hand brushes wayward wisps from his face.
Gentle kiss left on his cheek.
She smiles as she looks at him,
sighs stretches,
naked moonlight glistening her flesh.
Door shut tight as she leaves.

In the shower, she finds
permanent marker marks her.
She has to scrub off layers of skin.
Crimson spots prick through thinning tissue.
Behind the mist, she smiles,
lets the smoke take her thoughts
through the vent
to the cold outside…
they freeze drop shatter
            sparkle with the snow.

She wraps in terry cloth warmth
wraps her hands round a cup…
coffee steam hisses…
            “What did you do?”
Nothing.
Relentless steam: “What did you give him?”
She searches smoke memories…
            sweet dream;
the world needs dreams as sweet as his…
if only she could remember how.
She empties the cup
silences steam,
goes to join his
sweet dreams.

The door opens to scarlet walls
            drying deep burgundy.
A knife slants in his chest.
            She screams at
            what someone has done.
