GAIL ENTREKIN
Fairies
we meet at the intersection of Dream Wish and What-Is-Possible Streets you are wearing glasses and your eyes are rimmed with fear I have in my arms a covered cage with two green and gold fairies flitting inside like parakeets beneath the dark cloth I do not show them to you we sit down and order: from every section of the menu and we will share the last part dessert during dessert we take a pill and the restaurant disappears I push back the table climb onto your lap straddle you like a whore I pull your lips up into my mouth lick your eyes your terrible eyes with their overflow of fear I unbutton your chest open your heart to my hands gently I lift you out of your mind like a jewel and I tell you I have fairies and you say you have fairies and we look in at them and they hold the bars in their tiny fists and look back at us and their tears are diamond chips and we see they cannot save us but isn't it good to have fairies? you said we would never go down God St. where the white-bearded old man in the corner house yells at the kids who step on his perfect lawn I never wanted to go I held your hand I let you go now and we are drifting up death is not so bad all of it is all of it but I want there to be fairies.

WARD KELLEY
Asclepius
We are lame, and must be healed, we live in misery, and must be taught how to avoid the creation of our own pain, we are so confused and we need someone to give us a correct prayer. Save us, save us, raise our hearts into a proper plane. We reach out, reach out, and beg you to give onto our souls a prayer . . . It is so demanding, this life of cries and lusts and survival; come, give us a proper prayer so that we might cure the greatest miseries of our minds . . . we are lame, and must be healed.

InsomniaTOP Fairies©  GAIL ENTREKIN . JH 'FAIRIES' seems a simple dream sequence; but ad to it the idea that 'fairies' mutate in differing cultures -- here it is good; there it is bad; for some, 'fairies' are the harbingers of oncoming evils; to others they are mere fantasy. Here ENTREKIN creates the idea that faeries are carried in us, perhaps a will to beauty. Ironic how fairies are meant here to be firm and lasting though fairies are, most often, ephemeral, culture-bound mental-constructs.

Asclepius]BTM Asclepius ©  WARD KELLEY . POET's NOTE: Will and Ariel Durant (1885-1981 and 1898-1981) wrote in "The History of Civilization," that "At the town of Epidaurus, the Greeks raised a temple to Asclepius, the god of healing. Epidaurus became a Greek Lourdes; pilgrims flocked to it from every part of the Mediterranean world . . . Today such patients go to Tenos in the Cyclades where the priests of the Greek church heal them as the priests of Asclepius healed their forerunners 2500 years ago. And the gloomy peak where once the people of Epidaurus sacrified to Zeus and Hera is now the sacred mount of St. Elias. Then gods are mortal, but piety is everlasting."
