I come here he said sometimes if I'm feeling lonely or need a lift it's so lively we stood on a corner talking and I thought I have to go but really what's the rush? did you dye your hair or is it a wig? it looks nice he said

So, you found yourself today, walked right up to your reflection and there you stood, with all the should-have's, could-have's and would-have's puddled in your eyes. A few crow's feet, salt and grey streaks, to remind you it's not nineteen-seventy-nine anymore. You've spent years closing doors and hiding. Compromising, learning indifference wears an ugly bathrobe and keeps its chin low. Life's been constant undertow. No carriage comes to carry you off, no sun sets easy on a broken horizon. It's a slow admission, fear and crying when those Cinderella eyes confess, self-sacrifice leaves a terrible mess on the glass. Time pushes and moans on the bathroom door, screams a few foul words before it bangs again. The air stiffens, then bends in a new direction. This is the last moment of tight-lipped prevention. The quiet adjusts, reflects, sits down with its best friend conscience and discusses the outcome. Eyes wide open you push yourself closer to the woman you are. Your fears stare back, and in a panic attack you're forced to see, the mirror, that twelve year old girl hating her body, an old woman complaining about rain. Behind shades you've drawn, in the bathroom where you cry alone, you stand barefoot on ice tiles, middle-aged, naked to your own cold smile, shaking because something inside you can't continue faking it, something within you is still alive, and you make up your mind -the breaking stops now. It's in the transposition, innocence becomes maturity, acidity finds forgiveness, and as you pass by your new reflection, there is birth of solidity, and life begins.

You Take Advantage of My Good MoodTOP I saw Jerry at the Shuk  LOIS MICHAEL UNGER . UNGER's poems appear in Israeli and international including Storie (Italy), The Jerusalem Post, Nativ, and the World 'Seattle Sister Cities poetry Series' Book IV . UNGER's 6 books of poems include White Rain in Jerusalem and The Glass Lies Shattered All Around ED.: a poem of familiarity in impersonal space. Closure suggests alrernate readings. Is the 'wig' ominous: a sign of age/aging or a look of disease/dis-ease or traces of cancer treatments? Each offers a new poem; each requires reading and re-reading.
