IN ONE TOWN

a man hears crying,
under large plywood,
a crude wild cry 
to hang in there
"Gambara Ishimonka"
don't give up,
please, good luck.
		
		
ISHINOMAKI HOSPITAL

all the rooms are
empty. No doctors
or nurses. No
patients. Along the
dark cold hallways,
half eaten food
still on a tray.
Cell phones and
shoes on the floor,
a message on 
the hospital roof:
S.O.S

HOUSES FLOATING, NATORI
HOUSES FLOATING, NATORI

the town disappeared,
a shattered foot print

cars swept along
with the water

slammed into, stuck
into sludge. Houses torn

off foundations. Hit so 
hard they splintered

In this town of 17,000
more than half are

missing. Bodies like
draped in blankets

on the 5th floor
of the hospital

4 layers of water,
everything that stood
is 30 feet under

		
KESENUMA

thru the smoke
she can only imagine
her paper birds
reach his, that
he'll somehow again
touch the cherry
blooming where 
they had

		
NATARI

survivors cry for
missing loved ones

water logged teddy bears,
bodies in trees


a little boy held up
a splintered board,

the letters still dripping
			
		
NATORI

thousands of cars
like tossed piled shoes
in the Holocaust Museum.
In the town
that disappeared,
a shattered footprin
