You're all up in his face Mooring If I Could Name My Longing, I'd Name You

KELLY JEAN WHITE
You're all up in his face
this hulking shrug-shouldered kid: we've barely left the movie, and you're like two umps ready to grab each others' lapels, if you had lapels, it'll have to be hunks of cloth beside the sweatshirt zippers: I suppose it's 'cause you're all hyped up and heroic on account of heroics in the film but I'm not just embarrassed, I'm scared,  this kid's got a half dozen guys with him; you're yelling something about foul language and honey, you're pretty foul yourself, foul language in front of little kids, and this kid's maybe 14 but like I say big, and it's just the style, I wanna yell we're gonna have a racial incident: I am walking away on my own. when he stops shouting, turns, it's his voice now and I know you're hard of hearing but I can hear the 'fat-ass stupid-ass goatee in your little stupid- ass hoodie,' and I gotta say from the back he's got you, from the back you is both just about the same

JANE HUTTO
Mooring
You smooth away the edges of my life, Those jagged places filled with vast debris, And find the frayed, undone locations where Intentions long neglected keep their watch. I harbor near my heart the comforts you Have cast upon the driftwood of myself - I'm open to the brilliant hope you send Among your warm displays of careful lines - Therefore, I'll disregard the billows when A tempest rages toward my fragile craft. Security enfolds me since I have found Within the confines of this anchor strong A spot where sunshine, sea, and air and sky Suggest provisions for regattas fair.

KAREN STROMBERG
If I Could Name My Longing, I'd Name You
not as you were, I long for that too, but as the one you could have been, and what that would have made of me, if you had loved me then. I know it's possible to live up to love-- to be more than one is. I have done it for my children and their honest eyes. I didn't want them knowing how I saw myself: scared, small, sometimes mean. I pretended until pretending turned to truth. No wonder I'm so grateful to them. No wonder that when I name my longing, I name you and that tender stretch of memory that holds you still, along with everything we didn't know we could have been. copyright KAREN STROMBERG
