A Small Death in Syria

His thin little arms, 
the dark shock of hair, 
the blood that spills from the fatal neck wound, 
the great, tear-filled dark eyes 
that stare toward the camera. 
A three-year old Syrian boy, 
cheated of childhood, cheated of mother and father— 
cheated of life itself. 
Some well-intentioned person must have told him 
that he is going to Heaven now, 
that God will take him in loving arms, 
heal his wounds, comfort him. 
The child´s last, choked words are there
			for all of us 
to contemplate. 
"I am going to tell God 
what you did." 
Un  Muerto Mas en Siria

Sus pequeños brazos flacos, 
su masa de pelo tupido, 
la sangre que cae desde la herida mortal en su cuello, 
los grandes ojos oscuros, llenos de lágrimas, 
que miran hacia la cámara. 
Un chico Sirio de tres años, 
defraudado de su niñez, defraudado de madre y padre— 
defraudado de la vida misma. 
Alguien con buenas intenciones seguro le ha dicho 
que ahora se irá al cielo, 
que Dios lo tomará en brazos cariñosos, 
le curará sus heridas, lo consolará. 
Las últimas palabras del niño están allá para que
				 todos nosotros 
las podamos contemplar 
–Le voy a contar a Díos 
lo que ustedes hicieron.”
