COREY MESLER
Gloria Grahame Grays

Well, you're about as romantic as a pair of handcuffs. --from The Big Heat
I woke in a black and white bed. Gloria Grahame was sleeping beside me, her hair upon the pillow like moonlight in a martini. I couldnít remember how I got there, a bar, a car, a gunsel with cheap patter. All I knew was that I wanted to be far away. I wanted to be in another state, with my memory returned, with my head straight as a razorís edge. I wanted to take Gloria Grahame away from the noir life. I wanted her to see what kind of man I am, or could be, once moving down another road, in another story, without shadows, a life as clean as moonlight in a martini.

AJANA BASU
God's Pardon

I am ungrateful clattering trams weave jerky tales through my peopled head. Straight, unwavering a road not taken you would think except for the verges lined with sharp blue of tin under the culvert, a scrawled chalk sign of someone young working perhaps at night in the shadows hands creeping into hands where the wind cannot spy By day I am the only wanderer looking for signs tracing hoof prints that lead to empty fields tired of the hollow whistling winds
