LYN LIFSHIN
Hardly Any are Left

the ones from WW2, the Nam veterans look like they did, grey and paunchy. My three uncles dead and even the scratchy uniforms that outlasted them, moldering in a land fill. Only photos, one on a cot in Africa, wounded, smiling. Another in khaki shading his eyes from the light, not knowing he will lose the one that really mattered. And my grandmother, the mother who worried, picked up the phone with “is something wrong?” who sang “There’ll be Blue Birds over the White Cliffs of Dover,” as bombs fell and Betty Grable posed for posters that could be in a museum now, far from lands my uncles fought in, many with new names

MARC CARVER
Obscurity

It came on the tv that a film director had died Great guy they all said on twitter. I turned to her and said one day they will say that about me. She didn't say anything and I am fairly sure they will say nothing about me There is no one to say anything
