DAVID LAWRENCE
Refracted Breath

I catch my life by the tail and turn it into circles by its collar. It’s a dog’s life. I am fool’s gold. I am really the brusqueness of bark on a tree. I am everything and nothing. I am the invention of language. I am whatever I say when it is said for me. You are speaking in my ear. You are me. I am the words that spit out of the universe. I am the suspension of disbelief when I see myself acting Like a star. Nice to meet me. Nice to know me. I don’t know me but I listen to what I am in refracted breath.

DAVID LAWRENCE
Falling Sun

DAVID LAWRENCE Caught in a cough like a thorn in a petal like phlegm in a throat Like the desire to be hurt. I have sailed the seven seas So that I could resemble a pirate in a wave of plunder.
