JANEHUTTO
Anhinga on the River

JANE HUTTO School children, lovers, garden club ladies, photographers, old loves . . . each is drawn to the water, thirsting for a shiny dazzle beyond hip-hop, hoping to exceed ho-hum, (and perhaps we did.) Once afloat the river boat our captain singsongs Wakulla lore while the anhinga, a silhouette framed by river roses, rises, his flight steady. Some would reach out as if to fly with one so sure, then there's a turn in the river and we're ashore again.

JOHN HORVATH Jr
Skipper

Bohunk boys Errol-Flynned the neighborhoods--cruised foreign mains, raucously sworded it over the girls. Not him. While they were up and down their masts all during the pretty tits of youth, he was tumid friend to the weaker who exempted him from flirts--he was a pal. It seemed, while they cutlassed, he would starve, love to starve, love the water, never drink. Water, water everywhere and every drop a drink. Later, under stars, after a dance, walking home, he'd known romance; But, he never once told that he'd ridden out gales or sailed warm currents; he never mentioned being becalmed. We love more the pirate who never shares grog with his mates those always suspect but never know that they're out-Flynned.
