MARTIN JERVIS
Remembrance

You asked forgiveness But came with mushrooms on the tongue, The flowers on the grave Smiled daisy chains. You were marble-veined By a past not buried deeply enough. You were an icy cross Licked from both sides. You were in torment As you threw stones in the water And watched two souls Sink like weighted wreaths. And I cried out with memory Because I did not need your suffering. Accepted Anger/Confusion clarified and resolved by the last two lines.

MARTIN JERVIS
A street in a few moments of time

5-45pm May 24th 2008 Room 323 Palace Hotel Copenhagen Wrought iron balcony. Black headed gulls glide Between walls in the narrow street, Bicycles park at either end And people sit on phallic posts. Unseasonably hot – short sleeves stroll. Below left – PAPARAZZI lounge bar – Flames licking through pyramid holders. Opposite – attics in red tiles, Junk crammed to window’s edge, String less Braque guitar, Studded chest, boxes, and plastic bags. Below right – VILLA VINO restaurant is empty. Quiet street – facades grey, light red, grey, Yellow, grey and grey, red brick, white And white – two statues. In a window ‘TIL LEJE’ below the junk, Blue nylon rope hangs over balcony, Yellow oil lamps swing below. The church clock strikes six o’clock, Across roof top panorama, Green domes, towers, Spirals and factory chimneys. It is ordinary things in an ordinary day And ordinariness is everywhere.
