SUE LITTLETON
THE TRIBES

In practical reality, the aborigines are all the same people, and yet, even as their quarrelling, xenophobic modern cousins, they have divided themselves into separate tribes, each tribe staking the boundary of its territory making forays into a neighbour’s domain to steal a woman, dealing death to a trespasser from another tribe. One tribe lives at the periphery of a surreal landscape scarred with hidden blowholes through which great gusts of wind escape from water-carved caves beneath the ground with terrifying screams that taper to soft, sonorous whimpers, phantom spirit voices to taunt and mock the unwary traveler.

SUE LITTLETON
TRAIL OF THE SERPENT

Another tribe shares its territory with the broken shapes sculpted by time-battered rock formations. Here walks the monstrous serpent who helped the gods create the World, dragging his heavy body across the broken terrain, crushing all in his path. No members of the tribe will pass a night in those certain areas known to be stalked by evil ghosts, unless there is not other remedy, no possibility of attaining safe haven. The legends do not lie; the terrible spirits of the Outback have stolen away many unwary wanderers.
